FLX Local Media is looking for a Marketing Manager to own two of our properties end to end.

The first is our annual community awards program. Readers and listeners nominate and vote for their favorite local businesses across dozens of categories, and it finishes with a printed magazine, a winners’ merchandise line, and a live awards celebration. It runs on a yearly cycle: categories and ballot in the winter, voting in the spring, results and the magazine in early summer, the event in June.

The second is our regional lifestyle publication and community events calendar. It covers what makes the Finger Lakes worth visiting and worth living in: the wineries, the trails, the festivals, the new restaurant in a town of 2,000. It pulls events from dozens of sources across the region and turns them into the calendar people actually check before a weekend.

Both properties need the same three things from one person: someone who can run an event, run a project, and run content. You would report to our Business Manager, work closely with the CEO, and partner with our Director of Sales on what we sell around both properties. You would not carry a sales quota.

We use AI tools daily and we expect you to. We are not looking for someone who is merely willing to try it. We want someone who already reaches for it and can show us how it changed the way they work.

What You'll Do

  • Own the awards program calendar from category planning through the ceremony: book the venue, manage the run of show, and wrangle sponsors and winners
  • Represent FLX Local Media at chamber mixers, festivals, and grand openings across the region
  • Build and hold the schedule for two properties on overlapping calendars, each with printing deadlines, ballot windows, and sponsor commitments
  • Write and edit the magazine copy and the publication's features, and commission photography
  • Keep the community events calendar accurate and current
  • Own the social accounts for both properties and set the tone
  • Work with our Director of Sales to shape sponsorship tiers and content partnerships, and make sure what we sell is something we can deliver
  • Use AI tools to move faster on drafting, research, editing, and first passes

What We're Looking For

  • You get energy from people. This job puts you in front of business owners, winery managers, chamber directors, event committees, photographers, and sponsors most weeks
  • You are organized in a way other people can see, and can keep a dozen people on schedule without nagging them
  • You can write real sentences about real places, not marketing copy that says nothing
  • You are comfortable owning something. Nobody is going to hand you a weekly task list
  • You already use AI tools in your work and can show us how
  • A driver's license and a vehicle you are willing to put miles on
  • Helpful but not required: experience in events, publishing, tourism, hospitality, or local media; photography or design skills; WordPress; and knowing the Finger Lakes and the people in it

What We Offer

  • $35,000 to $45,000 per year, depending on experience. This position is not commissioned
  • An annual performance bonus tied to how the awards program performs
  • Health insurance through United HealthCare with three plan levels. The company pays half the cost of a single policy, beginning after a 30 day waiting period
  • Dental and vision available through Guardian, paid by the employee through payroll deduction
  • Company contributions to an IRA retirement program once eligibility is met
  • Paid vacation accruing after 90 days, and 40 hours of paid sick leave per year
  • A real audience and real impact from day one, across seven radio stations and a growing digital platform
